Congratulations to Karen and Robert! (They got married back in September at the Pines of Genesee in Golden, Colorado.)

I love this wedding for many reasons. The Hotel Monaco where Marisol got ready is amazing. Her room was absolutely divine. And then when we met up at Cheesman Park for the first look and portraits, it started to snow. Marisol was a trooper–she even took off her coat in the frigid weather for portraits. I took mine off in solidarity. And their families braved the temps with enthusiasm and grace. It was craziness. The ceremony was sweet, with a good friend officiating. (I love it when the officiant is a dear friend or relative–so meaningful.) The rest of the reception was a blast–good food, loud music, fun dancing and one of my favorite photos ever (the couple crossing the street in the snow).

A couple thoughts…getting married at Planet Bluegrass seems like just about the coolest wedding venue possible. Home to Rocky Grass and the Folks Festival, Planet Bluegrass is steeped in music tradition. And it is beautiful–the stage, the silo, the open grassy field, the rock wall by the North St. Vrain River.

Wedding season is in full swing! Before I share images from this season, I realized I still have a few weddings from last season to post. This wedding at Lone Hawk Farm in Longmont, Colorado was featured on Love Toast’s blog last fall. Besides being my sister-in-law’s big day, it was wonderful for other reasons as well. The table centerpieces featured the work of local Boulder artists, like Caroline Douglas. The ring belonged to the groom’s great-grandmother. The ring “pillow” was made by the groom.

Babies and kids and weddings on the brain! That is my current life. With my “maternity leave” (I put it in quotation marks since I am my own boss and have continued to do a bit of work over the last few weeks) coming to an end, I am learning how to balance work and a baby.

Today, I wanted to share a couple of sneak peek portraits from a wedding I photographed in May. Amanda and Josh had a wonderful day at Highland Meadows Golf Course in Windsor, Colorado. The guests were among the nicest I’ve met at a wedding, everyone was laid-back even when wind caused the celebration to take place indoors, and Amanda looked stunning. Thanks for the opportunity to take part in your day, Amanda and Josh!

If I lived in Colorado Springs or Castle Rock and was looking for a wedding venue, I would definitely consider Crooked Willow Farm in Larkspur. I mean, in addition to beautiful buildings, suites, and flowers, they have a camel! A camel! And, of course, breath-taking mountain views. I photographed this wedding for Jenna Walker Photography last fall, and it was definitely one of the prettiest of last year’s wedding season. Event coordinator Sarah Viera Event Planning & Design did an excellent job.

On Friday a special package arrived on my doorstep. From Italy. I tore open the box, eager to check out the wedding album of one of my 2012 wedding couples. How heavy the book, how thick the pages, how beautiful to take in an entire wedding without a computer screen. In this day and age, many of my clients choose not to order a keepsake, archival, lifetime album from me, which I understand.

Early last fall I had the opportunity to be a second photographer for my favorite Colorado wedding photographers, Jenna Walker Photography. This is an image from that wedding, which took place at the amazing Crooked Willow Farm in Larkspur. Of course, I love the back lighting and bright colors and flowers, but mainly, I just like the moment. Private, quiet, she is fixing up her dad before they walk down the aisle towards new chapters in their relationship.

Hello Everyone! Yes, I am still out here. I’ve been busy getting to know wedding couples, photographing family sessions, working on a new pet website, revamping my main website. So even though I haven’t posted as much as I would like, I am still out here, working away! The last few weeks have included a lot of camera fun.

I have the best job. Between photographing weddings, animals, and families, how can I not be smiling at work? This family and their little one made me smile more than normal…

One of the best things about being a photographer in Colorado is the abundance of awesome scenery to choose from as a backdrop. Sometimes my clients pick the location (which I love!) and other times I help them choose the spot (which is fine too). I suggest holding photo sessions in meaningful locations such as your own home or yard, a park that the kids particularly enjoy, or a hiking trail that you frequent.

Meanwhile, I wanted to share this beautiful wedding with you. I helped out the lovely Caroline Colvin Photography for this September wedding at the Lyons Farmette in Lyons, Colorado. It was a wonderful farm to table affair complete with gourmet food (obviously), lights twinkling into the night, wildflowers still in bloom, and a bonfire. Three Chicks Bartending fancied up the cocktails and a food truck full of dessert even made an appearance. Obviously, Natalee and Orion know how to throw a party! Plus, Natalee’s dog walked her down the aisle. If you know anything about me, you know I love dogs, and I love it when they get to attend weddings!

I can’t believe this Colorado Shrine of Saint Anne church in Arvada | Pines at Genesee in Golden wedding was over 3 months ago already! Now that 2012 is coming to an end, I am playing catch up and trying to share all the weddings and family photo sessions that I haven’t yet posted with you. As always, I enjoyed working with Brooke Trexler Photography and photographing at the Pines at Genesee.

I met up with this family near Chatfield Reservoir on a chilly day in October. The kids were such troopers dealing with cool mountain winds.

I had a blast photographing these two boys! They were ready to play, so we played Simon Says. And they went on swings, rode scooters, ran around. Talk about energy!

I love hiking Colorado’s amazing peaks over 14,000 feet. In a sort of love-hate way that is. I actually feel fairly terrible the entire time: out of breath and slightly delirious due to a lack of oxygen on the way up, cold from crisp mountain winds on top, and then knee pain and leg instability while hiking down miles and miles of steep terrain that is slick due to small rocks on top of loose dirt. But the views! The air! The thoughts you think! Being on an adventure with friends! That cold beer when you reach your car and the meal you eat later that day!

This was one of my favorite weddings of last summer. Kathleen was such a fun bride, super organized and totally in love with John. And John was just about the nicest groom ever. Their wedding was featured on Couture Colorado’s wedding blog a couple weeks ago, and I figured I may as well share these images on the blog as well. Kathleen did an amazing job coming up with a theme (French country meets Colorado–LOVE IT!) and decorating the Highlands Ranch Golf Club reception pavilion.
