Erie Colorado Family, Newborn & Senior Photographer

Erie is one of my favorite places to photograph families — and I've photographed a lot of them here. The wide open spaces, the newer neighborhoods with great window light, the easy access to trails and parks along the Front Range. It all makes for beautiful, relaxed sessions. I'm Susannah, a family and newborn photographer serving Erie and surrounding Boulder County communities. No stiff poses. No stressful process. Just real, warm images you'll actually want on your wall.

Erie families have been some of my favorite newborn sessions. The homes here tend to have great light, open layouts, and that particular warmth that photographs beautifully. I've photographed many Erie newborns throughout the town including Vista Ridge, Colliers Hill, and Erie Village.

Newborn Sessions
In-home newborn sessions are my absolute favorite. Your home is where the real story is — the crib you put together at midnight, the window with the perfect morning light, the couch where everyone piles up together for the first time as a family of three (or four, or five).

I come to you. Sessions move entirely at your baby's pace — there's time to feed, soothe, and settle. I'll gently wrangle older siblings, keep everything calm, and document the whole tender, beautiful mess of those first days.

Book your spot during pregnancy. The sweet spot for newborn photos is days 5–14, and Erie slots fill up — especially spring and fall.

Maternity Sessions
Erie and the surrounding area have wonderful outdoor settings for maternity sessions. And if you want more Colorado drama — mountains, open fields, golden hour — the foothills west of Boulder are a short drive and absolutely worth it.

Sessions are relaxed and unhurried. I have a client wardrobe and wardrobe planning software available so outfit stress isn't a thing. You just need to show up.
Most clients book maternity sessions between 28–34 weeks — reach out before then to reserve your spot.

There's a reason in-home family sessions are my favorite: your home tells your story in a way no park ever could. The books on the nightstand, the kitchen where everyone ends up, the couch that has seen a thousand movie nights. It's all yours — and it all shows up in the photos.

There's a practical case for it too. Little ones can take a snack break without anyone packing up. A reluctant spouse can disappear for five minutes and come back. Nobody has to rush out the door looking perfect. You just open the front door and we're already there.

For families who want to be outside, I've photographed many Vista Ridge families at home and then walked over to the nearby playground — that combination is hard to beat for families with young kids. I've also photographed at small green spaces throughout Erie, and I'm happy to make a recommendation based onyour neighborhood and what you're going for.

Sessions are fully guided and completely relaxed. I focus on the real in-between moments — the laugh, the pile-on, the kid who makes a run for it. Those are the ones that end up on your wall.

Hi, I'm Susannah.

I'm Susannah, a Marylander at heart (um, crabs, Cal Ripken Jr., and Natty Boh hon) who has lived in Colorado for 20 years. I am also a mom, wife, cat mama, and (of course) photographer.

I've been photographing families, kids, babies, and weddings professionally for 15 years. Before being a professional photographer, I was a preschool and art teacher.

Currently, I love reading books, watching my boys play soccer, the bands Phish and King Gizz, hiking 14ers, running, rafting, traveling, and all things photography.

Also, I love and am terrified of mountain lions.

“I was really impressed and happy with my experience with Susannah. She helped us pick the perfect location for our photos and she set up some posed photos but also caught those super cute impromptu photos. I highly recommend Susannah!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Family sessions run approximately an hour, though I don't time it — I read everyone's energy and go from there. Honestly, some of the best moments happen right at the end when everyone has loosened up, so I always try to push through to that. Newborn sessions take longer, closer to 90 minutes or more, because we build in breaks for feeding, soothing, and settling.

01. How long does a session take?

Don't worry about it — truly. We have time to get back on track, and the most important thing is that you don't stress about it. Kids pick up on parental anxiety about 5000%, so if you're relaxed, they'll come around. I've photographed a lot of Erie kids and I know how to work with the full range of moods.

02. What if my kids won't cooperate or my toddler melts down?

Either works. I love heading to families' homes — it's my personal favorite for sessions with young kids. But we can also meet at a local park or green space if you'd prefer to be outside. We'll figure out what makes the most sense for your family during the planning process.

03. Do I have to travel somewhere or can you come to us?

Actually it's the opposite — kids with a big age gap are wonderful to photograph because it's so easy to show off their relationship. The dynamic between a teenager and a toddler, or a grade schooler and a baby, is genuinely one of my favorite things to capture.

04. My kids are really different ages — is that a problem?

It depends on the session type. For family, newborn, and maternity sessions, you'll receive a curated online gallery and then choose a collection — every collection includes digital files and a print credit toward artwork, because these images should end up on your walls, not just on your phone.

For senior sessions, your $600 session fee includes 15 hand-edited digital files you select from your gallery, with the option to upgrade to a larger collection or add print credit if you'd like wall art or an album.

05. What do I actually get at the end?

Not even a little. I've photographed in tiny apartments, mid-renovation homes, and living rooms that were gloriously lived-in. What makes an in-home session beautiful isn't the decor — it's the details that are specific to your family right now.

06. My house isn't Pinterest-worthy. Does that matter?
