Denver families deserve photos that actually look like their lives — not stiff, not generic, not shot at the same three parks every other photographer uses. I'm Susannah, and I've been photographing Denver families, newborns, and seniors for nearly two decades.
I travel throughout Denver for in-home sessions — your home, your light, your real life. And when you want to be outside, Denver has some genuinely stunning locations: Cheesman Park, City Park, RiNo, South Pearl, the Santa Fe Arts District. I know these spots well and I'll help you pick the right one.
No stiff poses. No stressful process. Just real, warm images worth keeping.
Denver has some of the most interesting maternity session locations on the Front Range. Cheesman Park's neoclassical pavilion and columns photograph beautifully, especially in afternoon light. City Park has open meadows and water reflections that feel lush and natural. RiNo, South Pearl, and the Santa Fe Arts District offer a more urban, editorial feel if that speaks to your style.
Maternity sessions are relaxed and unhurried. Client wardrobe available. Most clients book between 28–34 weeks — reach out before then to reserve your spot.
One tip: I recommend booking your newborn session during pregnancy so your spot is reserved. The sweet spot for photos is days 5–14, before babies get too alert and wiggly — and those weeks fill up fast.
I come to you. That's the whole point of an in-home newborn session — no packing up a brand new baby and driving somewhere, no unfamiliar studio, no schedule that isn't yours. I travel throughout Denver for newborn sessions, and I'll work in whatever space you have. Tiny apartment, mid-renovation nursery, living room that hasn't been cleaned since the baby arrived — it doesn't matter. The light coming through your windows and the way you hold your baby is what makes these images beautiful.
Newborn photography sessions move entirely at your baby's pace. There's time to feed, soothe, settle, and do it all again. I'll document the tiny details — those hands, that nose, the way your baby fits perfectly on your chest — and any siblings or pets who want to be part of it.
Book during pregnancy. The sweet spot is days 5–14 and Denver spots fill up — especially spring and fall.
Here's my recommendation for Denver families: your home.
I know that's not what most photographers say. But your home tells your story in a way no park ever could. The kitchen where everyone ends up at the end of the day. The bedroom with the glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling. The couch that has seen approximately one thousand movie nights. Someday your kids will want to see exactly where they grew up — and a park can't give them that. Your home can.
There's a practical case too. Little ones can take a snack break without anyone packing up. A reluctant spouse can disappear for five minutes and come back. Nobody has to rush out the door looking perfect. You just open the front door and we're already there.
That said — Denver has wonderful outdoor options too. City Park is one of my favorites for families: trees, water, open meadows, and that beautiful Denver skyline in the background. Cheesman Park has a quieter, more tucked-away feel with gorgeous light in the late afternoon. I'm happy to make a recommendation based on your family's ages and what you're going for.
Family photography sessions are fully guided and completely relaxed. I focus on the real in-between moments — the laugh, the pile-on, the kid who makes a run for it. Those are the ones that end up on your wall.
Somehow, suddenly, they're seniors. This is the year to document exactly who they are before everything changes.
Denver is a genuinely great city for senior portraits. Cheesman Park's columns make for dramatic, architectural images unlike anything you'd find in the suburbs. RiNo's murals and industrial textures are perfect for seniors with an edgier style. South Pearl and the Santa Fe Arts District have that walkable urban energy that photographs beautifully. City Park gives you the classic Denver skyline backdrop.
Whether your senior is at Cherry Creek, East High, Kent Denver, or anywhere else in the Denver metro — I'm happy to suggest locations based on their personality and style. Multiple outfits welcome, yearbook submission handled directly. Sessions start at $600, 15 digital images. Book by early summer — fall fills fast.

Ready to book?
Family, newborn, and maternity sessions include a $300 session fee. After your gallery reveal you choose a collection of digital files and print credit toward artwork, ranging from $800–$1,500. Most Denver families invest between $1,100 and $1,875 total.
Senior portrait sessions start at $600 and include 15 digital images plus yearbook photo submission. Upgrades available.
Every session includes planning support, styling guidance, and a curated online gallery. And because I know a folder of digital files sitting on your computer isn't the goal — print credit is built into every collection so the images actually end up somewhere you can see them.
Book two sessions within 12 months and receive $300 off your second session fee. This is especially popular with maternity and newborn clients who want to document both pregnancy and those first weeks with baby — and with Denver families who book an in-home newborn session and then return for a family session as their baby grows. It's a beautiful way to document how much changes in a single year. Parents of Cherry Creek or East High seniors who add a family session while everyone is still together love it too.
I'm Susannah, a Marylander at heart (um, crabs, Cal Ripken Jr., and Natty Boh hon) who has lived in Colorado for 20 years. I am also a #boymom, wife, cat mama, and (of course) photographer.
I've been photographing families, kids, babies, and weddings professionally for 15 years. Before being a professional photographer, I've been a preschool teacher and an art teacher.
Currently, I love dancing in my kitchen, disco balls, the band Phish, hiking 14ers, running, rafting, my farm CSA, traveling, clothes, and all things photography.
I love and am terrified of mountain lions, and when I camp, I stay up all night listening for bears.
I always recommend your home first — there's no better way to capture your family's real story. For outdoor sessions, City Park is wonderful: trees, water, open meadows, and the Denver skyline in the background. Cheesman Park has a quieter feel with beautiful afternoon light. I'm happy to make a specific recommendation based on your family's ages and what you're going for.
01. Where do you recommend for family photos in Denver?
For newborns, book during pregnancy — the sweet spot for photos is days 5–14 and Denver spots fill up fast, especially spring and fall. For family and maternity sessions, a few weeks of lead time is usually enough, though fall books out quickly. Seniors should book by late spring or early summer to secure a fall slot before yearbook deadlines hit.
02. How far in advance should I book?
Don't stress about it — truly. Kids pick up on parental anxiety about 5000%, so if you're relaxed they'll come around. We have time to reset, take a snack break, change course entirely. Some of the best photos come right after a meltdown when everyone has loosened up.
03. What if my kids won't cooperate?
Not even a little. I've photographed in tiny apartments, cluttered living rooms, and homes that were mid-renovation. What makes a newborn session beautiful isn't the decor — it's the light coming through your windows, the way you hold your baby, and the details that are specific to your family right now. I'll find the good light and work around the rest. You don't need to clean for me.
04. My house isn't Pinterest-worthy. Does that matter for an in-home photo session?
Absolutely — and I mean that more than most photographers do. I ran a professional pet photography business for years, so animals are genuinely my thing. Dogs add energy, chaos, and usually some of the best candid moments of the whole session. For in-home sessions they're a natural part of the story. For outdoor sessions just make sure someone can wrangle them when needed.
05. CAN Our Dog be in photos?
For all sessions, you'll receive a curated online gallery. Upon viewing your photos, you choose which collection to purchase--every collection includes print credit toward artwork. This is to encourage you to have images that end up on your walls, not just on your computer. I can help you think through sizing, placement, and what would work in your home.
06. What happens to the images after the session?
