Best Spring Maternity Photo Locations in Boulder County

If you’re planning maternity photos in Boulder County this spring, one of the biggest questions is where to go.

If you’re searching for the best maternity photo locations in Boulder County, this will give you a clear place to start.

There are a lot of beautiful options—but not every location works the same way, especially when you’re pregnant and want something that feels manageable.

Below are a few of my go-to spots, along with what makes each one work well and what to expect.

Choosing the Right Location (Without Overthinking It)

Most couples are drawn to outdoor locations for maternity photos, especially in the spring when everything starts to open up again.

That said, not every spot works the same way—especially depending on how far along you are, how much walking is involved, and what time of day you’re planning for.

Some locations look beautiful but require more movement than expected. Others are easier to navigate but offer less variety. The best choice usually comes down to what will feel comfortable and manageable, not just what looks good in photos.

In general, I encourage people to think about a few practical things:

  • how far you’ll need to walk
  • how exposed the location is (sun, wind, crowds)
  • how much flexibility there is to move around

Most of the spots below work well because they balance all of that—they’re accessible, have good light, and don’t require too much effort to get what you need.

Keep reading for a few of the locations I recommend most often for spring maternity sessions in Boulder County.

1. Boulder County Maternity Photos at Chautauqua Park in Boulder

Sure it has the iconic Flatirons, but I love heading away from that mayhem, and photographing in its beautiful gardens and less popular areas. There are trees, shade, flowers, porches, rock walls–so many spots to create a soft, natural frame perfect for capturing the quiet joy of pregnancy.

Chautauqua works well if you want variety in one location without needing to walk far.

2. Sandstone Ranch, Longmont

This location features a mix of rustic charm and open fields. With barns, fences, and trails lined with springtime greens and flowers, Sandstone Ranch gives off a peaceful countryside vibe that is perfect for Boulder County maternity photos.

There is a bit of walking involved here, but it gives you access to unique cliffs, a river, a lush lawn, and more variety overall.

3. Hall Ranch, Lyons for Boulder County Maternity Photos

This park has red dirt, red mountains, and big sky views. This area can be crowded with mountain bikers, so heading there late in the day makes the most sense. And, if you are feeling sluggish and want views without a lot of effort, great options exist right near your car, making it a good option during pregnancy.

Hall Ranch is a good option if you want mountain views without a long hike.

4. Boulder County Maternity Photos in Lyons, Along the St. Vrain River

Nestled in the Lyons, Colorado, there are many spots for maternity photos along the lovely St. Vrain River. Depending on where you choose to have your photos, backdrops can include quaint bridges and lush greenery. River views, rocks, and peekaboo mountains can also make an appearance. Typically, Lyons is less crowded than Boulder–perfect for a laidback maternity session with a mix of nature and small-town charm.

This spot requires walking on rocks, but it tends to be quieter and more private than other locations.

5. Another Spot for Spring Boulder County Maternity Photos: Rogers Grove, Longmont

I love photographing here. I take clients towards the St. Vrain to photograph under a canopy of trees. There is also an amphitheater for seated shots, and evergreen trees that make a good backdrop as well. Basically, if you want a few different backgrounds in one area, this could be the spot for you.

There’s a bit of a walk to get in, but it’s an easy, straightforward path once you’re there.

Planning Your Maternity Photography Session

Most maternity sessions take place around 7 months, when your belly is showing but you’re still feeling comfortable moving around.

That said, timing can be flexible depending on how you’re feeling and what you prefer.

I also offer a small maternity wardrobe along with a planning guide to help you choose what to wear so everything feels cohesive without overthinking it.

If you’re trying to decide which location would work best for your session, I’m happy to help you think through what will feel easiest and most comfortable.
