I was honored to photograph this group of folks who were playing music on a Saturday night at the St. Julien in Boulder, Colorado. The group consistently plays the St. Julien and is comprised of the talented Phil, his son, and several friends. With the younger ones heading off to college, the appearances at the St. Julien will become rarer, so I was there to document the special night. When the son’s high school music teacher (as well as a teacher to several other present musicians) got up to play with the group, I got goosebumps. To see the enthusiasm of the musicians, to hear their talent….I would like to thank the teacher for the wonderful, important job that he has. It was a great night to hang at the St. Julien.

Today I am sharing images of much younger cousins. Their mothers are twins and these cousins were born just weeks apart. In these photos, they are wearing their mom’s old childhood outfits (I love, love, love when my clients come up with creative ideas like this!), and I think the girls almost look like twins themselves. I wish them a lifetime of fun and adventure both as cousins and good friends.

This has been a spring and summer full of trips. Ever since April, I have been on the go: 10 days in the Caribbean for my honeymoon, 7 days in New York, 9 days in Maryland and Delaware. Next up is New York for another week, then Oregon, and then probably North Carolina. Phew! I love that I am fortunate to get to travel, visit with loved ones, and take photographs along the way. I am also discovering that I love being home just as much, enjoying photographing weddings, people, pets and partaking in summer activities like sailing, long walks with my dog, and swimming in my in-laws pool. And not to mention how good it feels in our den with the AC cranked and a blanket on while my husband and I watch True Blood marathons.

felt like I was wearing an uncontrollable grin throughout Chris and Stacie’s April wedding at the Fort Collins Senior Center. In addition to being a lovely couple, the venue was teeming with fun-loving, happy, enthusiastic, polite family and friends. When the DJ (Jim Adelman) played certain songs, all the guests sang along, making me a little misty-eyed and so glad to be a part of this special event.

Although I attended one of the top sailing colleges in the country (as I always love to rub into my husband on the rare occasion we rent a Sunfish), I am not a great sailor. In fact, I am hardly a sailor at all, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming of my future boat and trips to the Caribbean. There is nothing like blue skies, hot sun, and leaning way out over the water on a little sailboat. Thanks to Ray and friends for getting me out there.

Rob and I headed to my favorite place in the world, St. John USVI. Since I’ve been there a couple times already, we also visited Tortola BVI too. We enjoyed reading books, not using our smart phones or laptops, swimming, hearing the ocean, and driving around the islands on the left-hand side of the road while blaring Rihanna’s “We Found Love.” I finally made it to Tortola’s famous Bomba Shack, and we made friends with another shack owner, Nature Boy. We saw wildlife and animals roaming freely on the islands: donkeys, goats, chickens, huge iguanas, little lizards, hermit crabs, sea turtles.

Today’s photos are from an engagement session that I did in Littleton, Colorado. Tim and Kelly live in Massachusetts and just happen to be neighbors with a gal who went to college with me (I totally love those random connections between people!). The couple were visiting family in Colorado and I was lucky enough to squeeze in their engagement shoot after the family session. They were super fun to hang out with…anyone lucky enough to go to their wedding is definitely going to have a blast!

But I am REALLY excited for what 2012 will mean for Susannah Storch Photography and Chloe Pet Photography. Instead of editing images and writing blog posts, I have been organizing/streamlining so that I can focus on photography and marketing. If you guys have any feedback or ideas on my website/blog/photocart/promotions, I am always happy to hear it.

In October I packed up my photo gear and headed to Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, Colorado to second shoot a wedding for Chad Morgan Photography. Although I drive by the gates to Planet Bluegrass frequently en route to outdoor adventures and although I’ve always wanted to go to Rocky Grass or other musical festivals there, I had never actually been on the facility. WOW! What a beautiful spot for a wedding! Set far enough from the mountain road, against a river and a rock wall, complete with a silo (who doesn’t love a good silo?!), Planet Bluegrass is the perfect Colorado spot.

I am excited and honored to let you all know that another DIY project from my August 2011 wedding was featured today on Colorado Wedding Magazine Blog. Be sure to check out the blog post for some DIY inspiration and Colorado wedding planning info. And, once more, thanks to my mom and Rosa for pulling this project together. I REALLY appreciate it and feel very lucky to have had so much help with wedding planning from EVERYONE! Rob and I couldn’t have done it without each and everyone person that contributed.

After the raft trip I took in Utah last month, my husband and I headed to Moab to check out their Pasta Jay’s restaurant (no wait!) and Arches National Park. I had been to Arches once before, but had my dog with me, so didn’t really get in a whole lot of exploring. This time I did the 7 mile Devils Garden Primitive Loop hike, spending hours in the fresh desert air while thinking about Edward Abbey’s book Desert Solitaire and contemplating how on earth the rock formations were formed. Utah is a strange place.

A couple weeks ago my business partner Sara and I were lucky to spend the day with Rebecca and Eric photographing their Lone Hawk Farm wedding in Longmont, Colorado. Lone Hawk is in one of my favorite local areas–the farm country just north of Boulder and west of Longmont. It is so pretty there with […]
