Chautauqua Park Family Portraits

In December, I took family portraits in Boulder CO at lovely Chautauqua Park. But the family I photographed wasn’t just any family…this family is one of my past wedding couples, and I have been blessed to photograph them several times. From their Red Rocks engagement session, to their Grand Lake wedding, and then their Golden maternity session, I was excited to see them on this new journey. And I was super excited to meet their new baby boy, since I love babies and I know all about baby boys.

Setting Everyone up for Success!

For this session, we met up at Boulder’s Chautauqua, which is a wonderful spot to take your family portraits in Boulder! Between the views of the Flatirons, the many trees, lovely gardens in the spring/summer, cute buildings…there are so many photography options.

Colleen did a fabulous job preparing for these winter photos. She had several wardrobe options, brought layers to keep everyone warm, and even toted around a little blanket. I particularly love the little fleece onesie with ears–do babies look any cuter outdoors than when they are wearing ears?!

I am definitely all about keeping baby happy! So we changed up the outfits, adding layers as we walked around the park. I also chose an area that I don’t always photograph because it was a little more protected–less wind and maybe the air was a wee bit less nippy. And, we did a lot of walking during the photo session–I have found that if you keep babies moving/walking, they area bit happier! I also photographed a ton of images in a shorter amount of time, since I knew once the baby wasn’t interested and happy, the session would be over. All of this aside, I have to say that Colleen and Brian’s baby was so mellow and cute and easy!
