Spring is a magical time of year in Boulder County, and all of Colorado really. The trees are blooming, the grass is greening up, and the soft golden light makes for unforgettable maternity photos. As a local maternity photographer, I love helping expectant moms find the perfect backdrop that highlights both their pregnancy glow and Colorado’s natural beauty. Here are my top picks for Boulder County maternity photos this spring.

1. Boulder County Maternity Photos at Chautauqua Park in Boulder
Sure it has the iconic Flatirons, but I love heading away from that mayhem, and photographing in its beautiful gardens and less popular areas. There are trees, shade, flowers, porches, rock walls–so many spots to create a soft, natural frame perfect for capturing the quiet joy of pregnancy.
2. Sandstone Ranch, Longmont
This location features a mix of rustic charm and open fields. With barns, fences, and trails lined with springtime greens and flowers, Sandstone Ranch gives off a peaceful countryside vibe that is perfect for Boulder County maternity photos.
3. Hall Ranch, Lyons for Boulder County Maternity Photos
This park has red dirt, red mountains, and big sky views. This area can be crowded with mountain bikers, so heading there late in the day makes the most sense. And, if you are feeling sluggish and want views without a lot of effort, great options exist right near your car, making it perfect for pregnant ladies.

4. Boulder County Maternity Photos in Lyons, Along the St. Vrain River
Nestled in the Lyons, Colorado, there are many spots for maternity photos along the lovely St. Vrain River. Depending on where you choose to have your photos, backdrops can include quaint bridges and lush greenery. River views, rocks, and peekaboo mountains can also make an appearance. Typically, Lyons is less crowded than Boulder–perfect for a laidback maternity session with a mix of nature and small-town charm.
5. Another Spot for Spring Boulder County Maternity Photos: Rogers Grove, Longmont
I love photographing here. I take clients towards the St. Vrain to photograph under a canopy of trees. There is also an amphitheater for seated shots, and evergreen trees that make a good backdrop as well. Basically, if you want a few different backgrounds in one area, this could be the spot for you.
Additional Information about Maternity Photography
Depending on your belly size, I recommend maternity photography sessions take place around 7 months. Book as early or as late as you want. I also offer my clients a growing maternity wardrobe with several dresses if you don’t love what you have. I also have a wardrobe planner to help you and yours look your best during our time together.
