Another Choose Your Own Adventure Session

Outdoor Adventuring with Dave, Kari, and their Baby
I was lucky enough to meet Dave and Kari a few years ago when I had the chance to photograph their Arapahoe Basin / Black Mountain Lodge wedding. From our first meeting, I knew they loved the outdoors as much as I do. Heck, Dave’s wedding ring even has a mountain range on it (coolest ring ever, right?). So when they were interested in taking their young son outside to play for one of my new Choose Your Adventure sessions, I was pretty excited. I get to meet a baby? I get to go snow-shoeing? I get to reconnect with past clients? Yay!
We first headed to St. Mary’s glacier outside of Idaho Springs, but the wind was just too much. No one would have any fun in that kind of weather. So we redirected and headed to Echo Lake, near Mount Evans. Luckily, the winds were much calmer, and three of us set out in snowshoes and one of us in a sled. (Nope, it wasn’t me being pulled in the sled with all my photo gear!)
Take a look at some of these snowy family photos and then be sure to check out three tips for a successful family adventure session.

3 Tips for a Successful Family Adventure Photography Session
- Be flexible. As in, we changed our destination due to crazy mountain weather. And I am so thankful.
- Little little kiddos are unpredictable. Baby Finn liked riding in the sled…a little bit. And then he got either cold/tired/hungry (or all three) and had a hard time adventuring. This is totally normal. If your child does the same, do not worry! We can continue/shift gears/eat that yummy trail mix with peanut butter chips/etc, but whatever happens, relax.
- Sunscreen! Note Dave slathering it on.
