Winter in Colorado finds many families spending more time at home. For families with young children or a new baby, that quieter pace can be the perfect time to document life.
In-home family photography and newborn photography sessions during the winter months offer a relaxed, low-stress alternative to outdoor sessions, allowing families to stay warm, comfortable, and present while creating images that feel natural and meaningful.

Why Winter Is an Ideal Time for In-Home Family + Newborn Photos
Winter sessions remove many of the logistical challenges families face during colder months, especially with newborns or young children. This includes:
- No weather worries or last-minute rescheduling
- Comfortable, relaxed pace for newborns, all kiddos, and parents
- Familiar spaces helps everyone feel at ease
- Soft, natural window light works beautifully in winter homes
In-home family photography removes much of the pressure that families often feel around winter photography or even outdoor family photography sessions, allowing the focus to stay on connection rather than logistics.

What a Winter In-Home Family Photography or Newborn Photography Session Looks Like
Photography sessions are designed to feel unhurried and flexible. We typically use areas of your home with the best natural light — often living rooms, bedrooms, or nurseries — and move slowly based on your family’s rhythm.
There’s no expectation for a perfectly styled house. Everyday spaces often make the most meaningful backdrops, and sessions move at your family’s pace with breaks as needed. My role is to guide gently while allowing moments to happen organically.

What to Wear for Cozy, Natural In-Home Photos
Clothing plays a big role in how in-home images feel, especially during winter months.
Soft layers, neutral tones, and comfortable fabrics tend to photograph beautifully indoors. Bare feet or socks often feel more natural than shoes, and simple outfits allow attention to stay on connection rather than styling.
I also help families think through wardrobe choices ahead of time so everything feels cohesive without being overly styled.

In-Home Newborn Sessions vs. Outdoor Winter Photos
For families with newborns, in-home sessions are, in my opinion, the best option during winter. Staying indoors at your own home allows for warmth, feeding breaks, and a slower rhythm that works well for both babies and parents.
Older children often thrive in in-home sessions too, where they can move freely and take breaks without cold temperatures limiting the experience. As do partners–they can bop in and out of photos as needed, but don’t need to be involved the entire photo session.
